Minutes after a bad loss, don't take a man's words at face value. It turns out Scott Coker was right, Fedor Emelianenko sounds like he wants to fights on.
The former PRIDE champ, who suffered a vicious beating at the hands of Antonio Silva, told the Russian media that he still has some fight left in him.
"I rushed to declare my retirement out of frustration. I will fight more. Possibly, I will return to the [Strikeforce] heavyweight Grand Prix," Fedor told LifeSports.ru (translation via Cage Potato). "I am confident that I am capable of having a few more fights. I didn’t make any analysis yet on why I lost. I need to recover. I can’t see very well yet."
Fedor's coaches downplayed the loss to Silva.
"Fedor is quite able to return to the tournament," Emelianenko’s striking coach, Alexander Michkov explained. "Everybody stumbles. This is not as terrible as everyone is making it out to be."
His Sambo coach Vladimir Voronov said Fedor is more motivated now than ever.
"He has a hematoma, but it will go. It’s very good that Fedor still has his fighting spirit, he is ready to break everyone now," Voronov said. "Most importantly for him is not to have any psychological pressure. The loss will make him train with triple the effort."
Is there any doubt Fedor will be re-inserted into the tournament if anyone else gets hurt? That's a bad break for guys like Shane del Rosario and Valentijn Overeem. Strikeforce is paying big money and wants to get maximum bang for its buck.
Bobby Lashley was making a nice living performing around the country doing the "fake stuff," but his competitive juices pushed him to enter to the unrehearsed world of mixed martial arts. With a solid amateur background and massive build, Lashley appeared to have the goods to be a very good MMA fighter, but his ascent hit a major speed bump last time out and now the former pro wrestling has elected to head back to smaller MMA shows and leave Strikeforce. It's something rarely done in the world of MMA.
"I’m not giving up. I know what I’m capable of," Lashley told Bloody Elbow Radio. "[...] There’s going to be a lot less pressure. Because I’m not undefeated anymore. That’s going to alleviate a lot of pressure for me. I don’t have to worry about keeping this undefeated streak or anything like that."
Lashley (5-1) re-emerges at Titan Fighting Championship on Mar. 25 in Kansas City. He'll meet James Jack.
"I can just go out there and be more comfortable. I think you’re going to see a much better fighter, because I think they’re going to let me fight every couple of months," Lashley said. "I’m just going to get better and better and better."
The fight will be televised on HDNet and he'll still be the centerpiece of the card.
Lashley was making solid progress when he signed with Strikeforce back in Dec. of 2009. He won his first fight for the promotion against Wes Sims to move to 5-0, but there were some warning signs. He was a still a one-tricky pony, who had to rely solely on his ability to get the fight to the floor and his cardio was iffy. So when Chad Griggs weathered the first Lashley takedown storm, the heavily muscled former NAIA wrestling champ, hit the preverbial wall at Strikeforce: Houston back in August. Griggs pounded away at Lashley, who crumbled to the floor and had no fight left in him.
"It’s hard when you have your first fight. And that first fight is on TV. You have a lot of publicity around you. It’s kind of hard," Lashley said. "Other guys, they get a handful of fights before they ever see any competition or are even on TV or anything like that."
Lashley just didn't like being under the spotlight as he was trying to hone his skills and gain experience.
"My first fight was on a major card and I’ve been on TV my whole career," Lashley said. "Everybody was like 'Who are you going to fight next? Are you going to fight Fedor?' And man, I’ve only got one fight under my belt!"
The 252-pound Lashley has to improve his stamina and needs to get past the mental hurdle of getting punched in the face. Much like former fellow pro wrestler Brock Lesnar, the former UFC heavyweight champ, Lashley looked very uncomfortable in the standup game.
The biggest thing? He needs to get his mental game together. Lashley's honesty is admirable, but he doesn't come off as a guy who believes he can be a great fighter. Even Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker was beginning to querstion Lashley's dedication to the craft. Lashley told PROMMANow that he has nothing personal against Coker, but he probably won't be returning to Strikeforce in the future. He's hoping to get more steady action with Titan FC.

UFC 127 – Michael Bisping’s technical knockout quiets Jorge Rivera is a post from: MMA Interplay UFC News
It's been a rough few weeks for Fedor Emelianenko. The former PRIDE heavyweight champ lost badly against Antonio Silva, then moments after the loss, said he might be done fighting. Last week, he admitted he'd spoken out of emotion and will probably return. Now comes the time for hard decisions says Miguel Torres. Fedor needs to shake things up or there's little sense in moving forward.
"When you man up, people will critique you and hate you for leaving, call you names and judge you for doing what's good for you," Torres told Fanhouse's Matt Erickson. "I feel Fedor's situation. It (freaking) sucks, but (crap) happens. All we can do is get better – and (screw) everyone else."
Fedor has always trained in Russia and has a tight knit training camp, but those old ways aren't working against the new breed of more athletic, bigger and well-rounded heavyweights.
"I say yes, (he needs to leave)," Torres said. "Russia will always be his home, but he lacks growth. Sometimes loyalty can hold you back."
Emelianenko didn't seem to have a gameplan in the fight against Silva. He fought with his hands low, looking to wing the one-shot knockout punch. After an even first round, Silva timed Fedor perfectly at the start of the second and scored a takedown. Stuck underneath the mammoth 285-pounder, Fedor never got back to his feet.
"He needs to adjust to the times and start working on being a cerebral fighter (again) and not a showman," Torres said. "He needs to play catch-up in a world he used to dominate. That stings really bad, but you man up or get left behind."
A UFC bantamweight title contender, Torres knows from experience. He dominated the 135-pound ranks in the U.S., racking up 17 straight wins from 2004-2009. But Torres' game got stale and too often, he fought to his opponent's strengths. He paid the price, getting blasted out via knockout in two straight losses against Brian Bowles and Joe Benavidez. Just like Fedor, he had to switch things up. Torres left his camp and friends in Northwest Indiana behind.
"I left to find growth – and everyone hates me for it, saying I'm a deserter and forgot where I came from," Torres said. "Even now, with my new style, people say I'm scared or not exciting. When I was training here, I didn't give a (care) and fought for the fans. When I lost, everyone threw (crap) on me saying I was nobody. My new style is actually cerebral and smart. I don't get hurt anymore, but lost fans. When I get the belt back, they will (love me) again, but I won't care. I'm all grown up."
There's been some talk of Fedor training with kickboxer Ernesto Hoost. That should be the start. Frankly, it wouldn't be the worst thing for Emelianenko to train in the U.S. to work with experts in all disciplines, that includes a nutrionist to make sure he's getting the most out of his 230-pound frame.

During Saturday night's Strikeforce broadcast, former women's contender Gina Carano announced that she was returning to MMA after taking a break to film a movie. She did not have a return date or an opponent, but Carano will be back.
Sarah Kaufman heard this announcement, and was kind enough to offer her hospitality to Carano. She tweeted, "I would give Gina a fight that would force her to "leave it all in the cage" :D."
Kaufman, the former welterweight champ hasn't been in the cage since she lost her title to Marloes Coenen in October. Kaufman's weight of 135 lbs. would be a stretch for Carano, who has struggled to hit 145 lbs.

Spike takes you behind the scenes of the Las Vegas tryout for Season 13 of "The Ultimate Fighter." It's a pressure cooker with hundreds of aspiring fighters getting just a few minutes to show off their skills.
Included this bunch, that showed up back in November at the Red Rock Casino, were a 51-year-old, a K-1 veteran coming back from open heart surgery and a U.S. Army captain, who just returned from Iraq in April.

Michael Bisping is looking to move from Great Britain and open a new Wolfslair Gym.
Where can he move where the fans love him? You know the answer, that place doesn't exist.
Not to be harsh, but the British middleweight just rubs people the wrong way with his general disposition and trash talk before fights. Even 12,000 miles away from his home in England, he was booed lustily during his fight at UFC 110 in Sydney.
Bisping is back in the Australia's largest city and says this time he may not leave. The 31-year-old's wife is Australian and they're strongly considering making their permanent home down under.
"I might be moving Down Under but I'm not gonna kiss anyone's arse to do it," Bisping told The Telegraph of Sydney. "But for those people who wanna chant 'Bispin's a wanker', yeah, they can go and ... well, you know."
That's actually tame compared what he once said in Zoo Magazine about his last Aussie fight experience. According to The Telegraph, Bisping said:
"all Aussies can go %$#@ themselves."
Bisping didn't tone down any of his prefight rhetoric in ancitipation of his meeting with Jorge Rivera on Saturday. In fact, he appeared close to slugging the New England native during the post-presser staredown. Rivera appeared a bit shocked at Bisping's behavior and trash talk.

Forrest Griffin and Tito Ortiz have fought twice, and both have ended in a split decision, one win for each fighter. Either those losses didn't sit well with Griffin, or he was bored and needed some entertainment on Thursday.
Griffin tweeted a self-deprecating message, comparing himself to Ortiz's worst qualities. Ortiz responded with several tweets ripping on Griffin.
Tito, let's talk for a second. I've taken one psychology class in grad school, so I'm pretty sure that qualifies me to analyze you. Is it possible that you have some unresolved anger and insecurity over the recent rough patch your career has hit? And just who are you angry at, Tito? Is it Forrest or is it this guy?
Work it out, Tito. Channel that anger towards your March 26 bout with Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. Or maybe try some yoga and scented candles.
